HAZard and Operability Studies Gasunie: improvements to the nearest millimetre

The purpose of a Hazard and Operability Study is to improve the operational safety of an installation. The study reveals in detail whether changes to the process design are necessary. To optimise the engineering of its installations and pipelines, Gasunie had a series of these studies carried out, to examine such issues as operability, safety, health and the environment.

The systematic analysis of the process design for shortcomings led to a number of improvements, including increasing the diameter of one pipeline, relocating regulators and the inclusion of additional safety valves. Sweco carried out more than 10 Hazard and Operability Studies on behalf of the gas transport company.
